Marjolein's Tool Tips

We're moving!

This whole site is being moved to a shiny new server - as are all my sites, in fact. Apologies for the bumpy road ahead, but at the end of that road things will become fast and smooth.

Once the site at the new server is ready, this message will automatically disappear!

Meanwhile, you can see how the move is progressing at the status page.

Introduction

Gradually, I find I'm writing up things for this site that don't neatly fit into a VTML or HTML section. This page is the starting point for a new section with tips for using and customizing HomeSite and ColdFusion Studio tools. to menu

Toolbars

Creating new toolbars for HomeSite and ColdFusion Studio is pretty easy. But you may need some special tricks to get them to look exactly the way you want - as I found when creating the CS-RCS toolbars. And while creating toolbars for yourself is still fairly simple, even with the special techniques used for the CS-RCS toolbars, preparing toolbars for distribution to fellow developers requires some extra techniques. Most of these techniques are undocumented features!

The Toolbar Tips page spells them out for you. to menu

Editing tools

HomeSite and ColdFusion Studio offer several options for working with HTML and other tag-based code. Apart from directly typing your code into the editor window, HomeSite 3.01 and ColdFusion Studio 3.11 have Tag Insight and Tag Editors for entering and editing tags; there is also the Tag Chooser to select a tag for inserting into your code. In the versions 4.0 of these programs we now also have Tag Inspector, a property-sheet type interface.

All of these tools have distinct advantages and disadvantages. And exactly to what extent they are able to help you produce tight and legal code depends largely on the data files used by the tools. What to choose? What to use? And what is important?

This page about the Code editing tools available in these programs will tell you more. to menu
